"day case unit"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

I have just spent six and a half hours in the day case unit with my daughter, she had to go in to have botox injected into her arm,no anesthetic required, she was told by her doctor that she could eat and drink as normal, all she got was a cup of juice, bear in mind we had been at the unit from 7.40am, she was taken to theatre at 2.20,so she hadnt eaten since the previous evening,I think this is totally wrong, for a start why have to sit all this time for 3 injections, and more so why be blooming starved? She was given a sandwich when she had been returned to the ward but that was nearer 3.30,practically 20 hours without food, not really good enough!

Thank you for leaving your comments on the NHS Choices website. We are sorry that you felt the time your daughter was asked not to eat or drink was excessive and am disappointed that you were not kept fully informed as to why this was the case. If you would like to speak to someone about this further, please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison team by email at: pals@chs.northy.nhs.uk
