"Lister and St Albans woes"

About: Lister Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics St Albans City Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I slipped a disc in Nov 07. I attended A and E at the Lister and got referred for an MRI in Dec. 2 Months later the results arrived stating that urgent surgical reveiw was required. 6 MONTHS later after repeated phone calls I received a letter asking if I still needed to see a consultant. In the interim my GP had reffered me to St Albans City Hospital which treated me twice in the day surgery unit which was excellent. As this treatment failed to clear the pain I was finally given surgery in Feb 09, 15 months after the whole saga started. Unfortunately following the op the aftercare was terrible. Our bedside buzzers were broken and I had to get out of bed numerous times during the night to ask a nurse to come over for the elderly man in the bed alongside me as his buzzer was broken too. The following day no follow up information was given and I was sent home with no knowledge at all of what to do etc
