"Hip Replacement experience"

About: Goring Hall Hospital

I had a full right hip replacement in April 2013 following an extended period of pain to my right hip, lower back and my left hip - affecting my ability to work and move in a manner normal for me. I am a Pilates teacher and love trekking, dancing and 'moving'. Prior to my operation I thought I would never be able to teach - with demonstrations - or dance and hike long distances again. But I am immensely pleased to say that now - a year or so on from my op. I am able to do all of these things again. The process was not easy and involved lots of physio work to regain strength and flexibility in my right leg and hip. There was much pain and moments of doubt - was I overdoing it or not doing enough? But I can honestly state that my new hip is simply amazing and best of all the referred pain in my lower back and left hip has almost completely disappeared . I teach in an active manner, dance with great stamina and having just returned from a walking holiday in the Alps I have been confident enough with my physical fitness to book a trekking holiday in India this year. My Surgeon has been incredible and his encouragement and patience with me in the early stages was much appreciated. I always felt I could see or speak to someone on the phone at times of anxiety and the regular monitoring of my progress was very reassuring. A big Thank you to my Surgeon and the fabulous team at Goring Hospital . PS My Surgeon and I have discussed the possibility of me doing a promotional DVD of me teaching a Pilates class - thus demonstrating how amazing life with a new hip can be... I am very happy to be involved in this way but sadly do not have suitable equipment myself to take high caliber film. Jo Ambrose
