"8 day stay for surgery"

About: Warwick Hospital

Originally I was admitted to Guy Ward following an appointment at the Fracture Clinic which revealed my foot was more badly broken than first thought. I spent 4 nights in guy ward awaiting surgery, the care I received and observed given to others was second to none, all staff were curteous and respectful to patients needs, also the treatment which was required or was to be carried out was explained in simplistic terms which could be understood. Due to the ward having a deep clean, I was moved to the 23 hr ward and spent the following 4 days there. Again the quality of service was excellent and all my needs were met, it was during my stay in 23 hr ward that my surgery took place. Post surgery I received quality care and again all aspects of my treatment were explained in such a way that they were easily understood, I felt that I was in control of my own decisions such as pain relief and also about discharge. I did not feel comfortable about being discharged as I had a little bleed from my surgery, without any fuss I was kept in for one more night to allow my surgery to settle some more. I would also like to add in such a time when hospital food is being criticised that I could find no fault at all with any of my meals. All meals (which were meant to be) arrived at similar times and were hot. Not one meal did I turn my nose up at , even the vegetables were still firm, not soggy and cold in the slightest, additionally I would like to add that whoever makes the soups should have special praise, they are obviously well made and taste amazing, especially the curried parsnip!! People who critisize, I think, should take into account that the kitchens are providing food for approx 1,000 people 3 times a day, therefore the quality will not be Michelin star, however it is of a good standard and assists in the recovery of patients. The only thing I would ask to improve the 23hr ward is to install clothes hooks in the washroom at various points, eg near shower/toilet and sink.
