What I liked
My relative was a patient in St Margaret's and although she recovered, the staffing was woeful. There was only a couple or sometimes only 1 nurse between 2 bays and the patents are elderly and need commodes. There is one commode and it can take up to 30 mins to get one and help to use it. If you are disabled, visually impaired, it is very difficult to feed yourself or get help and this is ignored. Relatives have to come in and feed patients if they want this help. The nurses are very good but if you compared the 'adequate' rating for a nursing home with the staffing here, this ward would fail to meet adequate standards. It is a shame as all the other wards are excellent eg A&E, CDU and Sandwich which are superb in their care.
What could be improved
Get more staff or volunteers to help with feeding or toilet issues
Think about needs of the elderly who are visually impaired as they are ignored and have little safety equipment eg plate guards etc
