"Problem with left eye"

I started seeing flashing white light out of my left eye, followed by floaters and other frightening symptoms. My GP told me to wait at home and at some point during the afternoon I would receive a call from Lancaster Infirmary. By 3.00 pm my symptoms were worse and I was becoming rather scared. My partner and I decided to set off for A and E with the hope that I would see a specialist doctor. The first response from the A&E nurse was why was I there and not at home waiting for a call which would have happened after 6.00pm.( my GP had not told me this and as I live in Grange over Sands I would have had a long drive in the rush hour). I explained the situation and she was then very supportive, professional and helpful. I was seen at 6.00pm and the care and attention I received was excellent. I returned 6 weeks later and once again received excellent care. My only negative comment is that if you are scared that there is something going wrong with you eyes not many people would be willing to wait at home by the phone until they receive a call at some point. I had waited from 9.30 am when I saw the GP until 3.00 pm. Even a short call from a nurse telling me to arrive at the hospital at a certain time would have been sufficent. I was not willing to leave it 24 hrs and discover that it was serious and that early intervention had been required. Having said that I am happy with every thing else to do with the hospital.
