"Theatre Admissions Unit - Northern General"

About: Northern General Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I didn't appreciate the long wait between a.m appointment and p.m operation time but I can feel for the medics who are continously juggling with bed availability. Ironically a more welcoming reception area might relieve the tension a little.

I don't know the solution, but the toilet facilities are the most obvious source of infection not least because of the diversity of habits of users. The ultimate would be automatic wash down (which never caught on in the high street) but perhaps a loo cleaning method could be devised for the fastidious say a reversible low seat with auto swill.

My experience of the food was limited as was my appetite but that on offer was not encouraging.

One specific and perhaps feasable improvement would be the shower facility. My one attempt to use it was disastrous. The shower 'tray' was floor level (no upstand) and a suction drain non functioning - result completely flooded floor of the whole room. A rethink is required.

Nothing above detracts from the help and efficiency of the nursing staff for whom I have heartfelt praise.
