About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

My daughter is depressed after being admitted to the children's ward after cutting herself and an overdose she was referred to cams they failed to acknowledge any problems. Der hello its not rocket science we told them of the quick turnaround mood swings that she would just sit banging her head on cupboards but seem like they just wanted to brush respnsabilty off. After a program on tv yes i no its tv and some research that i did she had symptoms of depression and PMDD which people don't seem to know a lot about or have never heard of like the first GP we spoke to. Later her own GP said its defiantly a cause of depression but because of her age which she is now 15 she has to be reffered to cams so not holding my breath the appointment which eventually came through was for 4 months away when we asked the lady on the phone at the hospital she said thats all they have,my wife said if she cuts herself or goes out of control she could be dead by then and to our disgrace the woman just LAUGHED that is just not professional.

We are very sorry to hear that a parent is unhappy with aspects of the service they have received from CAMHS. We want everyone who uses our service to feel welcomed, listened to and understood. When for whatever reason this does not happen we want to know so that we can take action and learn any lessons for the future. Our hope is that anyone who has a complaint would feel able to let us know so that we can investigate and sort out what has gone wrong. Unfortunately in this case it is hard for us to investigate further when we do not have the information which would enable us to do so. We would welcome the complainant contacting one of our managers or the Assistance and Complaints Service so that we can take appropriate action. In the meantime we will be making all our staff aware of the complaint and will remind them all of the need for the utmost sensitivity when responding to the concerns of young people and their families.
