"I was admitted into the SGU ward ..."

About: Southend Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was admitted into the SGU ward then moved to Kitty Hubbard ward after assessment - my comments apply equally to both wards.

Unfortunately, I have stayed in a few wards at different hospitals and these two wards were very clean. All ward staff, medical, domestic etc, were so friendly, caring and polite. These people worked so hard for very long and unsocial hours yet still had time to laugh and joke with all patients. Behaviour like that make you almost forget the reason why you are there. I've only been home for two hours and I already miss them - at least I received lots of hugs before I left!

Unfortunately, my health means that I will be re-admitted at intervals for the rest of my life..... I won't say that I'm looking forward to it but I certainly will not be dreading it.

I cannot praise them highly enough.

What could be improved

Internet use @ 60p for 20 mins is very expensive by todays broadband rates.

Anything else?

I cannot leave without mentioning the Southend renal clinic\centre. From the receptionists, nursing staff, to the consultant - everyone is so friendly, and they all know every patient by their christian name.

Many thanks for your kind comments. It is heartening to note that your experiences have lessened your anxiety about coming to hospital and we hope any future stays with us reflect this standard.
