"How to get in and where to go!!"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital

Thanks for the directions how to get to the hospital complex, but you badly need an easy to understand floor plan showing all the entrances and where you are supposed to go when you get there! You arrive at the hospital with no idea where the best place to park is, where the correct entrance is, which corridor to take etc. Very bewildering and stressful when you have an appointment you do not want to be late for! Had to go to the Churchill in Oxford recently and they sent out a booklet giving you all the information you needed with very clear instructions where you needed to go.

Dear responder

Thank you for your comments. I have passed your request for better sign posting information around our hospitals to our estates department and I will update this post when I have more information.

Dear responder

We have just completed a review of the signage at Stoke Mandeville. As a result of this review there are A - Z directories and ‘You are here’ maps are placed in all main reception areas along with location maps at various locations on the main corridors.

We agree that in some instances departments could be better identified in particular endoscopy and day surgery however we are pleased to see people making great use of our wayfinding system that we have in place.

I’m sure you will understand that with the constant changes to dept and ward locations, it can be difficult to keep on top of things and we are very conscious not to have too much in the way of temporary signage which becomes tatty and untidy.

It may help if I also add that with the changes being undertaken at the present time, the main outpatients signage is being updated as are the name changes for CDU (to AOU) and the additional signs which will be required when ward 17 comes on line are being produced.
