"My visit"

About: Salisbury District Hospital

I have just got back from Salisbury hospital and for the first time I've had the worst experience ever received from the place! Firstly when I turned up the receptionist was far more interested in being stood out the back having conversations with other staff members about somebody "stinking out the toilet" and when I finally poked my head round to get her attention I found her on her personal mobile phone! I had taken my 3 year old son in because he had a facial injury which was swelling by the minute. She booked us in and we were seen by the triage nurse after about 45 minutes. Granted I could see the accident and emergency department was busy but never did I expect to then wait around 2 hours still to not be seen by anyone and end up walking out. There were even people sat waiting who had been there before myself who were still waiting to be seen. Over a whole I was seriously disappointed by the whole experience and felt my son had been let down by the nhs.

Thank you for getting in touch and we are sorry to hear we didn’t meet your expectations. You are right in saying that the Emergency Department was very busy yesterday and regrettably at some points during the day there was a delay for triage. It is our aim to see and assess all patients within 15 minutes and apologise that we were unable to achieve this standard consistently. At times an extra nurse was triaging and assessing patients due to the high number of patients who presented. All patients are triaged and prioritised, and the experienced triage nurse who saw your son made the clinical assessment that he was in a stable condition and did not require immediate medical treatment. Waiting times are displayed, however, we do appreciate this must have been an anxious time for you and we are sorry that you felt unable to wait any longer. We hope your son is recovering well.
