"Communication, communication, communication"

As a first time mother as you'd expect I was worried about giving birth and caring for a little child, baby now nearly 8 weeks. Before giving birth I had Braxton hicks for 3 days straight, I'd not slept for 5 days properly and only had 15 hours sleep in 4 days. Phoned triage on a number of occasions and on the whole they were helpful and gave advice, staff on ward helpful when I went in for checks, only problem was I wanted checking and insisted after 4 calls over 2 days, felt like I was a inconvenience to staff, finally day before birth I insisted on monitoring as movement reduced. When my waters finally went the staff were helpful on the ward and within labour suite really helpful and encouraging in my tired stage, could have been more better due to non communication that my baby was in distress and consultants coming in every 30 mins to check and cause discomfort, finally after 10 hours labour with just gas and air I was taken to operating theatre and assisted with delivering with baby. After birth staff on ward helpful with feeding issues and checks, lovely student midwife took baby on a push round ward as he was unsettled with other babies crying early hours of morning. Only issue would be non communication for a number of hours when asking if I was going to be discharged, finally after baby checks and mother checks in afternoon and all clear I finally got an answer that I was going to be discharged but not until shift change. Finally went home at 8pm the following day after giving birth. Unfortunately this was short lived, I was home for 1 day and midwife check 3rd day, baby had 15% loss, went to paediatrics ward and all checks came back clear and no dehydration, 20 hours on feeding assessment and consultant indicated that birth weight must have been recorded incorrect so caused some stress and over concern, weight checked upon admittance to ward but not on release so not consistent as scales can be different, purple notes not completed upon discharge to inform midwife so I had to tell her what me and my partner knew. One staff member very stern. Thankfully after this event baby is ok and putting on weight. As per newborm and underweight a baby needed to be seen at 7 days, this fell on a sunday, advised by my midwife that another midwife would be coming out to check, unfortunately this was not passed on, waited in until 1pm then phoned and informed this message was not passed on even after I'd rang shortly after midwife left to inform I had a prior event to attend on sunday afternoon and to make it morning visit. Midwife asked if we could pop into DRI for weight checked as she was unable to come to us, I indicated this was unsuitable and asked for a visit ASAP, my husband was moaning within the room, she asked who it was but I didn't want to cause any problems and asking for a further appointment prior to my midwife appointment on the Wednesday coming , happily they confirmed a visit would happed the following day, completed finall
