"Excellent care"

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

I was very impressed with the care I received at MRI, I was a long way from home but really quite enjoyed my stay there, the staff on ward 9 were excellent and I can say the same for all those who looked after me in intensive care. My only criticism would be the food which is really bad, the management really need to sort this out as it is unacceptable, I left the hospital early as I found it almost impossible to get a decent meal, which is crazy after spending so much money trying to make me better then you want to starve me. I would say at the very least a third of all meals are thrown away each meal time which is a terrible waste. I think the management should come down on the wards and try to eat some of the food being dished up then you might agree its awful! Thanks to all those who looked after me, you are a credit to the NHS.

Thank you for your comments posted on the Patient Opinion website regarding your care on Ward 9. It was very kind of you to write and compliment the staff as it is good to receive positive feedback which reflects their hard work and dedication. It was reassuring to hear that you thought that the care you received from the wards was excellent. We can assure you that we have passed on your thoughts to the Ward managers and the staff involved.

Your comments about the catering have been reviewed by Mrs Kathryn Mitchell; Deputy Head of Facilities in liaison with Sodexo Healthcare our private sector partners providing catering services. Mrs Mitchell is sorry that you were not happy with the quality of the food you received. We work closely with our food provider and the Trust dieticians on a continual basis to ensure that we implement a food service that meets the nutritional needs of all our patients. We always try to ensure that the food we offer to patients is of good quality and nutritious value. Your experience will be shared with the catering team to ensure that we are providing meals to patients that are prepared well and served within a timely manner so that that they are delivered to the patient at their best.

Furthermore, the Trust has seconded a Matron to Sodexo Healthcare, to provide an informed interface between the nursing teams and the domestic and catering staff. As a result, improvements in these areas to the patient experience will be identified and developed so that future patient experiences are improved.
