After a recent laparoscopic cholecystectectomy and intraoperative cholanglogram procedure (gallbladder removal) I am extremely pleased to say that the whole experience created by all of the staff was one of compassion, care and professionism. From the time i entered the Theatre ADM and Day Surgery (A301) the support staff, anaesthetist and surgeon spent some time asking questions and then explaining in some detail the procedure and timescales. The environment and furnishings for the surgery are both new and practical. Once in the theatre the team including the registrar have created a professional but relaxed atmosphere. Once the operation was completed I was taken to the ward (A344). The nursing staff were most pleasant, helpful and attentive, again creating a professional but relaxing atmosphere which must be quite difficult for this very busy surgical ward. Before discharge I was seen again by the surgeon who gave a quick overview of what he found and how things went. A specialist nurse then went through all the post hospital matters such as care of dressings, physical activity restrictions, driving restrictions and the process for addressing concerns and post operative matters. The gallbladder removal is not one of the easiest of operations to endure as a patient and have still some way in determining how successful the outcome of procedure will be, but I must say that this hospital must rank as one of the best around for the complete patient experience, especially with the attractive buildings, highly skilled and dedicated doctors and support staff. All I can say is a sincere thank you very much to all the brilliant staff at Broomfield Hospitsl.
