What I liked

Being given the option on the first night to go home and come back in the morning as I lived locally. Once the nurses and Scottish Doctor finally saw me they had good people skills and the tea lady was very nice.

What could be improved

Just about everything! Got sent to DRI on the Friday evening and after a couple of hours was seen. The bed they put me on had a bag full of rubbish next to it. When came back Saturday at 8am as requested was left sitting around for ages and there was blood stained rubbish under the bed - still there the next day which is appauling especially with all the posters about washing hands and media about infections. When mentioned to staff they offered to move beds but not to clear it up! Was told to drink lots ready for scan within the hour yet over an hour later still sat there waiting and had to give up and use toilet. Came back from scan and by now lunchtime had gone and was not seen by anyone for over 2 hours and that was only when my partner went to find someone. Was extremely hungry but noone told me I could have eaten 2 hours ago. The consultants had a total lack of people skills and spoke down to us and did not care about explaining anything or asking if we had any questions. Sent home Sunday with no diagnosis and other tests mentioned they could do but would not do. I am therefore going private and getting the care and attention everyone deserves. If my grandparents were still alive they would be appauled at what it has come to as they worked at the DRI in the 60's.

Anything else?

It's no wonder my sister left working in the NHS to go private but it's good nurses like her they need. Having stayed at or visited others in the Norfolk & Norwich hospital, Papworth, Hinchenbrook and Addenbrookes I would recommend them any day but not the DRI.
