My wife was suffering from early stage dementia when she first visited the Hospital as an out-patient. From the care with the assessment, the consideration for her and my welbeing, to the treatment, we could not have had better or more sensitive treatment. This is an example of best practice in the NHS with most positive results. This service is vitally important to the sufferers and the carers of people with dementia, however mild or serious. It clearly has the potential to keep sufferers out of hospital and restore confidence and independence in their lives. This early treatment has the potential to save significant costs to social service provision. One doctor in particular has shown professional concern for the wishes of his patient, extensive knowledge of the condition of dementia, and ability for gentle persuasion of the under confident on ways combating this disabling disease. The result is really positive and my wife has recovered her self-confidence, her memory lapses are few and far between, and she is much more herself. A wonderful result !
