"Total Right Hip Replacement Surgery Tthornbury..."

About: Thornbury Hospital (Sheffield)

An NHS referral to the One Health Group resulted in me having Total Right Hip Replacement Surgery on the 30 th August 2014 at Thornbury Hospital. The whole process from start to finish was totally trouble free. I have been suffering with my Hips for a considerable amount of time and was finally referred to the Musculoskeletal clinic at Keresforth Centre in Barnsley, I was quickly sent for x-rays to confirm the diagnosis. I was then sent to see the consultant surgeon from the one health group at Thornbury Hospital. He explained what the problem was, gave a detailed description of what was required, and gave me a date for the first of what would be two separate hip replacements. I attended for a pre op the week prior to my admission date, and was made very welcome and kept informed at all times about what was going to be done. On my admission all the staff at Thornbury where very polite, informed me of what would be happening and really made me feel at Home. I was shown to my own on suite room and advised that the consultant, and various other people would be in to see me in due course. Everything happened as I had been advised and the whole pre op process made me feel extremely comfortable with regards to what was happening around me. When the time came to go to theatre I was kept well inform and received an epidural in preparation for my operation, i was also told that i would be put to sleep through the procedure to keep me comfortable. The Surgeon, doctors, nurses and theatre staff where amazing and the operation was completed in the timescale I was given and I was soon back in my room with no post op after effects. Within a short time I was seen by a physiotherapist who advised what we would work on together and what was expected of me in regards to my recovery. The next day I found myself out of bed and walking with a frame. The physio quickly progressed me onto crutches and I continued to work on walking throughout the day. We progressed onto steps later in the day and I was advised if I continued in the same way the next morning that I would be allowed home. Discharge was equally trouble free, we hear so many stories about things which go wrong, I would like to thank each and every one of you for the way this worked out for me.
