"Day Surgery Gall Bladder Op , new unit"

About: Frimley Park Hospital (Frimley)

I received excellent clinical care and all the staff were efficient at getting me through the process. I had to have a further test when I got there as I had had a change of symptoms and my surgeon was cautious about proceeding without checking this first. This probably threw their surgery list plans but they managed to rearrange this once they were happy with the test result and still get me down to the theatre that day. The recovery staff were very good. The day surgery unit itself is arranged as a corridor of rooms, one per patient. Essentially I was in a private room. All new and clean. There were only 2 faults with the building which I was aware of 1) the doorway into the patient room needs to be a bit wider as the bed trolley is a tight fit and 2) the water pressure in the taps for the patient taps is too high for the sink in the patient loos. The nurse spent some time on the floor wiping up water with paper towels. It is a pity that a new build has not got this right. The only other ways the service could be improved are administrative: 1) I could have done with a post operative care sheet upon discharge re wounds, stitches, and generally what to expect. More information would be good at this point as I was definitely still fuzzy headed upon leaving the unit and not up to thinking clearly. 2) Over 2 weeks after the op my GP surgery did not have any report to say op had happened and I think that is supposed to be sent through electronically. In my case no loss suffered from this but generally I think it should be standard that the info is shared asap with GP. These are small criticisms which could be easily put right and I would definitely recommend coming to the day surgery unit as the clinical care is excellent. Thank you Frimley Park.
