"Dissapointed"

About: Purley War Memorial Hospital

I am very disappointed that the hospital only treats very minor injuries and is really no more than a first aid stop. It is such a shame that money spent to help relieve the situation at Croydon University Hospital A&E has not resulted in providing any support. I have visited the unit at Purley on 3 occasions, the first time was before its status was reduced to minor injuries and I was very impressed with the quality of service; the caring staff and the excellent facilities. Then during the school holidays I brought my son, but after waiting an hour was told that he needed an X Ray and apparently the minor injuries unit can no longer use the X Ray department at Purley. Today I arrived with my husband at 19.50 and was told that it was too late to be seen, in spite of the closing time being 20.00 - we were the only patients there. The receptionist took all the details, but we were told by the medical team present that they didn't see people after 19.50 because they wanted to go home by 20.00! Can I suggest that if this is how you operate the department that you alter the signage to the correct time or else provide the usual expected service that shops and offices etc provide by allowing clients into the premises until the closing time. Many jobs have a clear up time at the end of the working day.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know your experiences. The unit at Purley War Memorial Service was initially set up as an Urgent Care Centre which was run by Croydon Health Services and I am pleased that you received good care when you attended.

The decision to change the status of the unit to a Minor Injuries Unit was made by the Croydon Clinical Commissioning Group ( www.croydonccg.nhs.uk ) and the Minor Injuries Unit is operated by AT Medics, a GP-led company. I will ensure that your comments are passed on to AT Medics but you can also contact them direct through www.atmedics.org.uk
