"Greatly improved but ..."

About: Watford General Hospital

My thanks to all the staff, particularly those on Sarratt Ward for looking after my elderly father for the last 6 weeks following a fall. The nursing staff, OT, mental health team and all the support staff have been great and all seem to work very well together to provide a joined-up service. The communication with relatives is also good. They have done everything possible to help my father heal physically and mentally. There are still some things that need to be improved to give a good all-round service. * There is still a lack of cover with regard to Drs, tests, pharmacy etc at weekends, which delays the ability to leave hospital sooner. * The food choices are quite good but the quality needs improvement. Some of the meals look as if they were good to start with but are then microwaved to such a high degree that they are ruined. * The meal timings are not great for everyone. They seem to wake patients up very early (5am) but breakfast does not arrive until about 9am. Then lunch at 12.30 and supper at 17.30. * There is often a long wait to get medications from the pharmacy on discharge and patients are often unable to go home on the scheduled day because of this. I would like to say thank you to all the staff and look forward to seeing continued improvements at Watford General.
