About: Grantham & District Hospital

Went for a MRI Scan. Was lead into the room and told to get on the bed, a ball pushed in my hand and told to push if I wanted to come out and then a pair of headphones was stuck on my head and they left. There was no bedside manner at all. I was not told what to expect, or how long it would be. I had a CT scan earlier in the day and was told fully about what was going to happen. Also at other hospitals they play music through the headphones while you are having a MRI scan taking away some of the fear and making the time pass more quickly.

I’m sorry you felt that you had a poor experience when you came for your MRI scan. Unfortunately, as you have posted anonymously, it is very difficult to ascertain which member of staff was involved at the time so we cannot resolve this issue. Having said that I will speak to all staff and pass your comments on. I fully expect all staff to explain the procedure and ensure that the patient is aware of what is going to happen, but as I have said, it is difficult to comment in this case. The ability to play music through the headphones was removed many years ago after numerous complaints from patient’s that the music and the noise of the scanner became too much of a cacophony and only made the experience worse, and so it was disconnected at their request.
