"Emergency Visit on Sunday Night"

About: Diana, Princess Of Wales Hospital

I took my 10yr old Son because he is Type 1 Diabetic & cut his hand open & started to swell. We was told there was a long wait of about 3-4 hours, as they were under staffed. While waiting there was a 14 yr old girl presenting all the signs of Meningitis & she had a high temperature stiff neck & bad headache. She could not talk or move or arms & legs. I went & had a chat with the Nurse as she was deteriating very quickly & she replied 'she is on her own & she is seeing a child with a head injury & there is no-one to look at her'. I replied back 'what happens if she collapses & her breathing is shallow??' She made the decision to put her in room where she could monitor her,but her Mum was very upset by the way she was treated. My son waited for 4 hrs to be looked at & given Antibiotics & sent home. The Nurse who was on duty was getting stressed & she should not have been put in that position with People getting angry about their children crying in pain & waiting times. On a weekend when it is more busier than usual there should have been more Staff on duty. This situation is getting worse in our A&E Dept & I will consider going somewhere else next time other than Grimsby because Care is being compromised by ridiculous staffing levels at Weekends & alot of other people also agree these standards are not good enough!!
