"Lost Respect for NHS hospitals"

About: Northwick Park Hospital

Hi, My wife and I had a terrible experience with Northwick park hospital Maternity unit for nearly complete 3 days. We were expecting our first child and completed 17 weeks. My wife started having some sharp pains for 10-15 seconds every 20 minutes during 17th week of pregnancy. Till this point everything was fine apart from some nausea and tiredness. No other symptoms or signs. She tried taking some rest to see if the pain will go away but no benefit. Went to A&E next day at 6:00 am. The nurse took BP and Urine test, all fine. Doctor came to see and said it could be contraction pain but since he is not a Gynaecologist, he needs to call the specialist to discuss the case further. Was informed to go home and take rest. We were not convinced and requested for a Scan appointment. The doctor said no please go home and take rest but we wanted to ensure that everything is fine and were persistent in getting appointment for scan. The doctor referred the case to the scan department. Got a phone call at 09:00 for 10:45 appointment. Attended the appointment and scan completed with some really bad news which we never expected. The cervix became week and the labour has started which mean that the baby might get delivered soon. The radiographer said please wait for a doctor to come and talk to you. This was at 11:00 am. The doctor came to talk to us at 14:30 pm to explain us and said we will have to wait for the next 24 hours and if things are fine in the next 24 hrs then they will come and discuss with us further. The water broke at 16:00 when the nurse were trying to take the blood for some tests. My wife told them that her water is broke, they said fine, they will call the doctor. So my wife is sitting and waiting for the doctor but the doctor came at 09:00 PM. 5 hours after the water broke. The doctor said, hi how are you? we replied we are waiting for a doctor to come and see us, as the water broke at 16:00. She was not happy with us and said that you should have delivered the baby by now, why are you not trying. we said, nobody said anything to us for delivering the bay. We had no idea. We thought the doctor will come and help us, if we had to all of this on our own then can we go home and do this at home only. Why do we need these multi-million pound hospitals. We pressed the button for some assistance 4 times but no one came. I (husband) went out and called nurse but they said they are on a vaccination round and will come and see us when finished. So the doctor went away saying try and deliver the baby, no assistance at all from nurse and doctor. My wife was tired and emotionally drained at this point. The nurse came and asked me to go home as visitors are not allowed. I was really upset and said that I am not leaving my wife alone in these circumstances specially when there is no help for staff at alll. We were really angry, upset and emotionally drained. There is more to say but I am running out of words. Dont go to this place for problems.
