"funding for continuing healthcare"

About: NHS Dudley CCG

(as a relative),

My 84 year old mother had her fifth stroke in November last year, it left her unable to communicate, right side paralysis, double incontinence, diabetes, copd, unable to feed herself so is fed by peg, heart condition and is totally immobile.

We were refused CHF so we appealed in Jan 2014, after loads of e-mails and phone calls to Dudley CCG and local MPs here we are in September 2014 and it has still not been sorted out, not a very good record I would suggest? and I am sure not a record you would be proud of?

The figures for continuing healthcare for 2013/2014 were 937 applications and only 659 provided, population of 313000 DMB, not good, only0. 2%!

Response from Stroke Association, Stroke Association

We noticed your post and thought you may be interested to hear about the work of the Stroke Association and how we may be able to support you. Stroke Association is the leading charity in the UK changing the world for people affected by stroke.

Our Stroke Helpline is there for anyone who has been affected by stroke in any way. You may want to know more about stroke and its effects, be looking for practical information and support, or simply someone to talk to. The Stroke Helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm on 0303 30 33 100. You can also email us at info@stroke.org.uk. We also have a range of services across the UK, providing information, advice and support to stroke survivors and their families. You can find out if there is a service in your area by contacting the Helpline.

We were sorry to hear of your mother's situation and that you feel you she has not received the funding she needs. It may be helpful to contact Independent Age, who are an independent charity offering information and guidance on all aspects of health and social care. They may be able to make additional suggestions to help in this situation. You can contact their helpline on 0800 319 6789, or email them at advice@independentage.org

Finally, you can also find lots of information about stroke on our website at www.stroke.org.uk. You can read about our services, read or listen to other people’s experiences and download all of our publications free of charge. There is news about our campaigns to improve services for stroke survivors, national and local events and our research programmes. You can also join the Talkstroke discussion group where you can share your experiences with other people who have been affected by stroke.

I hope that this is helpful and I wish you and your mother the very best.

Thank you for you reply gives me other roots to go down. Still had no response from local people about problems. I think their attitude is it will go away if we leave it long enough.

Response from Laura Broster, Head of Communications, NHS Dudley CCG

Thank you for your post. I am sad to hear about your mother and I am sorry that you feel we have not dealt with this matter in the best way for you.

Unfortunately, I do not have all the information I require to be able to look into this and would be most grateful if you could email me further details contact@dudleyccg.nhs.uk. I will then personally ensure that you get a timely response.
