"Knee replacement: good, but information afterwards could have been better"

About: Chorley & South Ribble Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I recently had a knee replacement operation at Chorley Hospital Lancashire.

The care and attention from every member of staff was first class. I was so afraid prior to the operation but the Nurses and Doctors gave me the confidence I needed to see it through and that the op would give me a better quality of life.

My only concern is the lack of after care I have received since the operation. I have felt so alone and there has been no information available to explain what a patient should expect after the operation i.e length of recovery, pain management excercises etc. Leading up to the operation there is endless information you can read about relating to the surgery but no information thereafter.

Maybe this area should be addressed so that the patient was aware of what to expect after the operation instead of just feeling anxious as to whether what was happening was normal or not.
