"Hip replacement in Elective Unit"

About: Tameside General Hospital

My operation proved to be much more complicated than anticipated. Apart from 2 members of staff, everyone was wonderful. I was extremely well cared for and treated with total respect. The food was completely edible. It was hot - when necessary - there was an excellent choice - it was salt free but you could request a packet - had fresh fruit and veg included. I had been dreading it but had no problems at all and I'm very fussy. There's just a need for a couple of staff to stop moaning about how tired they are at the start of their shifts! It doesn't inspire much confidence. We all were tired when we were at work but smiled and carried on! Also, make sure patients know why things are happening! If there's a bed move/room change, then tell us why! The Unit did seem very understaffed at night-time and some of the Bank Staff were more hindrance than help, though That was a pity. Thanks to everyone who helped me make a speedy recovery!

Many thanks for taking the time to comment on your experience at Tameside Hospital. I have passed on your comments to the ward manager who will address these areas of concern you raise relating to improving communication.
