"Signage at Purley War Memorial Hospital"

About: Purley War Memorial Hospital

(as a service user),

The CCG was asked to ask Mayday Hospital to improve the signage at Purley War Memorial Hospital as local people were

1. Not aware that the hospital had reopened

2 Downgraded from Urgent Care Unit to Minor Injuries Unit

3. GPs, when they took over reduced the opening hours based on spurious evidence, mainly when the hospital was "a building site" that fewer people attended. Can't think why!

4. People have no idea when the opening hours are.

As far as I am aware, whoever is responsible for Purley Hospital was asked to put up signage that could be read from a car passing and read from the pavement, like a banner so everyone could see it easily.

Three months later, what has Mayday done? Put up a banner? Used the space under the existing boards either side of the entrance? No,"2 to 8pm" on the existing signage is all they have done

Taking the (insert your own word) michael is polite!

£11million spent on Purley Hospital to help relieve Mayday of it's overload, and the best they can do is 2- 8pm.

So much for listening and engaging with patients.

And don't talk about the misleading, photocopied notice you are handed if you are what is treated!

Response from Graham Richardson, Deputy Manager, PALS and Complaints, Croydon Health Services NHS Trust

I am sorry to learn of your concerns about the Purley War Memorial Hospital.

The hospital site is overseen by the Estates and Facilities Division of Croydon Health Services and offers three main services - Outpatient clinics for Croydon Health Services, a GP practice (on the first floor above the Outpatients Department) and a Minor Injuries Unit, which is run by AT Medics, a GP-led company.

When the hospital reopened, there was initially an Urgent Care Centre, run by Croydon Health Services. The decision to change the status of the unit to a Minor Injuries Unit was made by the Croydon Clinical Commissioning Group ( www.croydonccg.nhs.uk ) and any operational issues, such as changes to opening hours and the signage for the Minor Injuries Unit would be taken forward by AT Medics. I will ensure that your comments are passed on to the company but you can also contact them direct through www.atmedics.org.uk.

Our own website (www.croydonhealthservices.nhs.uk) publicises details of local healthcare alternatives to our A&E department, including the Minor Injuries Unit at Purley, and this includes details of the unit's opening hours.
