"My son was treated on the SDC ..."

About: Birmingham Children's Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My son was treated on the SDC Ward and the staff were trully excellent. He was only just 4 years old and was extremely frightened, but the nurses who looked after him and especially the Registrar who was operating on him were fantastic. He had a very good experience. This helped such a lot because in February this year he had to come in for another operation. I am convinced that because of the level of care he had the first time it helped enormously this time round. He was not scared or worried and took it all in his stride. The only thing he was upset about was that the Registrar who saw him before was not looking after him this time and couldn't draw a funny picture on his leg! He was most upset that he only had an arrow. We had a choice of going to Worcester Hospital which is closer for us, but I was so happy with the experience at Birmingham previously I chose to come back. Hopefully we will not need a hospital for our children again, but if we do I would happily make the extra journey to come to Birmingham if I had the choice.

What could be improved

The same as everyone probably says - the parking. Although I appreciate it is difficult in a city centre location. As we had to be on the ward at 7.30am I did manage to park in the car park at the front of the hospital so was lucky, but by 9am it was full.
