"Surgery as a day patient"

About: Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

After a previous bad eperience in a different hospital, I was extremely nervous about having a general anaesthetic, and about every aspect of my surgery. When I explained this to staff during the very careful and thorough pre-operative assessement, I was able to talk through my concerns without being rushed, and every aspect of the procedure was carefully explained to me. After this reassurance, my fear was greatly diminished, and I arrived for my surgery feeling more relaxed than I would have thought possible. I was under the care of the consultant, and from the moment I arrived at 9am until I was discharged in the afternoon, I was treated with kindness and friendly respect. No part of the procedure was traumatic, frightening or painful, and I came round from the anaesthetic feeling peaceful and calm. I wanted to write a review to thank staff in the department for making a day I was dreading into an almost pleasant experience, and also to reassure other nervous patients who might be looking at these reviews before their procedure, just as I did before mine.

Jane L Thank you for your kind comments regarding the staff during your recent admission to the Gynae Day Surgery Unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. I am more than happy to pass these on to the Manager of the Unit, and would like to wish you a speedy recovery following the procedure.
