"Poor experience of maternity services ormskirk hospital"

About: Ormskirk & District General Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

Very poor & inaccurate info given to labouring women &partner.

Since attending parent craft/ birthday Saturday class at ormskirk hospital we were advised to contact the hospital following any changes whilst in labour such as waters breaking, pressure in bottom, to go in & get checked out.

However when I did go into labour & rung for advice we were spoken to like we were bothering them. My waters broke & staff didn't ask if clear. My partner rang saying I had urge to push at 4.30 am & staff said to get into bath/ bed. We placed faith in NHS as first time parents.

At 7 am contacted triage asking for pain relief & to come in, again triage staff reluctant to let us come in as my contractions didn't last 45 seconds, so deemed not to be in full labour. Partner insisted we were coming in, whereby found to be 10 cm dilated and pushing. No pain relief available as too late. Luckily called in, as I pushed little ones heartbeat was dropping due to cord round his neck & had excessive bleeding - very close to transfusion. Could have been noticed earlier. Community midwives alarmed by situation.

Aftercare not much better, no hand wash, urine sample left in toilet gift 14hours, medication asked for & not brought. Bottle asked for baby 1hr 1/2 later, it arrived.

Very unsympathetic towards tiredness (room noisy, staff talking, only offered to move me after discharging myself) medical notes inaccurate. Mixed messages about breast feeding, one staff said to do skin to skin, next staff told me to get little one dressed.

Complaint going in. Unhappy new mum.
