"So upset"

About: Burnley Hospitals

Being pregant and experiencing abdominal pain is a worry do when I call triage and take a trip into the triage antenatal ward I do not expect to be spoken to so horribly! I have never had an internal examination so I was obviously feeling very nervous! The midwife put me on a feotal monitor, and after doing my ob another nurse re entered to ask me to 'take your pants off and everything, put that blue sheet down and lay down in the bed' no notice of what what going to happen prior to this I was shocked and immediately uncomfortable so I asked would it be okay if I waited for my partner to arrive because I'd never had anything like this done before, he should be 5 minutes, she shouted my question across from the room to the midwife sat at the desk and the midwifes reply was 'I'm not messing about I'll just get the doctor to do it' which I heard so I said I wasn't comfortable doing it, the reply from the nurse 'you don't have to have it done' quite nastily, my partner arrived and after he heard what had happened, disgusted we both left, still not knowing what the problem is. Absolutely disgusting!

Dear Ashleigh

I am so sorry you've had such a poor experience of care at our antenatal ward at such a worrying and stressful time in your pregnancy. I can only apologise that our staff didn't treat you with the care and concern that is expected, but thank you for taking the time to comment and let us know. I will make sure your comments are passed onto the managers concerned and I do hope everything is ok with you and your baby?

If you would like to talk through your visit to us with one of our Patient Experience team so we can understand the bits of your experience that made this such a poor visit for you we would really value this so that we can try to improve things for every expectant mum visiting our hospitals and services. You can either contact me (Wendy Stobbs) on 01254 734471 or email me on wendy.stobbs@elht.nhs.uk.

Or if you prefer you can discuss further any concerns you may have about our services with our Customer Relations team on 01254 733700 or complaints@elht.nhs.uk who can advise you of your options in raising these concerns further.

Once again many thanks for taking the time to comment

Regards
