"Made to feel a nuisance at the gynae assessment unit"

About: Arrowe Park Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

After a recent IVF failure and complications with pain my GP sent me up to gynae assessment to be investigated. My ivf was performed down in London due to winning a competition to win a free ivf cycle. Therefore it was not practical for me to obtain care there as an emergency.

The care I received was not very sympathetic and I was actually made to feel a nuisance for attending. All though very grateful for receiving care it was difficult to not feel 'unwanted' in the dept.

As I sat in the mixed gynae assessment, EPU and termination waiting room I could feel my anxiety raise. A young girl sat next to me and proceeded to discuss on her mobile phone that she was there to have an abortion. The tears rolling down my face I couldn't believe that I was sitting there having had 4 ivf failures and the one thing I wanted more in life she was about to remove.

I just sat there numb with the reality that it was a mixed waiting room. I was discharged with no treatment and not a great deal of advise. In fact I was discharged with a snigger of your fine, nothing wrong, go home! When I was asked if I could see a doctor I was told no. After the days events I didn't force the fact I just got my bag and left.

I did not feel like I could complain at the time as to be honest I was raw. My heart was breaking and pain intense.

I don't know what it is with APH and mixed waiting areas. Sitting in gynae clinic watching all the pregnant ladies coming out cooing over baby scans. Years ago the gynae waiting area was separate to maternity. Why on earth they feel the need to combine. I have no idea. A bit insensitive APH.

So overall my experience of late has not been great.
