"Paramedic and A&E service brilliant; wards hopeless"

On Saturday 22nd November at about 7.00am my husband called for a paramedic. The previous day flu symptoms took hold. The following morning I was unable to breath due to a chest infection and this affected my asthma. The paramedic, "Dave", arrived within minutes and attended to me for an hour. My condition didn't improve so he requested an ambulance to take me to A&E. This also arrived promptly. The A&E treatment was very good as I was seen to straight away.

I was admitted to ward B3 until my temperature reduced, breathing improved, rehydrated and I retained my appetite. So there was good initial assessment on B3 but from then on not really happy. From what I saw the toilets were not cleaned, loo roll not replaced, urine or other patients left openly by the sink for more than 24hours. No one asked me if I'd eaten or drunk anything during my stay on the wards. The nursing care was very inconsistent as some were fantastic and others just couldn't be bothered. No information was given to me about the eating protocol. I was finally given food at 6.30pm on the Saturday and remained on B3 until midnight on Sunday. I was awoken and told I'd be moved to ward D11 as they needed beds. I then managed to get some sleep. Then on the Monday I was ignored by all the doctors and had to pester them to be allowed home. Never again!
