"My father in laws recent hospital stay"

My father in law has recently recieved a biopsy of his kidney and he reported that he was very impressed with all levels of care and attention, from the consultant and nursing staff both qualified and unqualified. "He loved the hot beef sandwhich" and was escorted to my car personally by an attentive health care assistant One problem was the fact that his surgery had been cancelled previously as there were no beds avaiable on the planned day of surgery, although he had not arrived to the hospital this caused great anxiety and distress to an 85 year old man and his wife. On the second surgery date given, he recieved a telephone call same day of planned surgery, to say that there was no bed avaialble. However my husband contacted the ward and the nursing sister ensured that there would be a bed available. It sounds to me capacity does not meet demand.

Thank you for your review of the care your father in law received from the Urology Team and we are sorry he experienced delays due to his admission being cancelled. Unfortuately there are occasions when the number of patients admitted as emergencies throughout the course of the day or during the night can have an impact on the availability of beds the following day despite the Patient Flow Team's best efforts to accommodate everyone. Please be assured, we only cancel admissions as a last resort and we do appreciate the anxiety it can cause so once again, please pass on our sincere apologies to your father in law. It was good to know however, that once he was admitted, he received the very best of care and we will ensure your comments are shared with the Urology Team.
