"Day service has changed my life"

About: Highly Specialist Services / Eating disorder service

(as a service user),

I have been admitted to this eating disorders service twice, once for 5 months in 2012 and a second time at the end of 2013 for 7 months. In between these admissions I had one to one therapy and key work and I now receive one to one psychological therapy weekly.

My initial transition into the service from an inpatient unit was a smooth one, the staff worked well with each other to make my transition as easy as possible. Nevertheless I was extremely anxious as I had only heard negative things from previous patients (when the service was still in its infancy) and at first I found it difficult to adjust to.

You have to be very self-motivated to make the programme work for you. Day Service is open 3 days a week 9: 30-4ish and you eat 1 meal and 2 snacks there each day as well as taking part in various groups and therapies. The service has improved dramatically since I was first a part of it and the staff team work really well together to take on board feedback and respond to the needs of the patient group at the time.

Day service has changed my life, it is a really really hard thing to do but the rewards of seeing it through are fantastic.
