"Daniel King - Survivor of Cancer"

About: Arrowe Park Hospital

I have had absolutely no problems with the Haematology team. I was diagnosed in January 2014 when I originally had to stay in the hospital for about which I wasn't excited about but it was a lot better than I thought. The day and night staff were magnificent, always gave me more than enough details of where I was at - you could tell that they genuinely cared. I spoke with one person a lot of the time whilst I stayed and will forever be grateful of how she put my mind at ease during my stay. I was petrified after being diagnosed but talking with her made me realise that I'd be fine. Since then I have been attending the Haematology day ward once, sometimes twice a week and again have had not one problem at all in the 8 months I've been attending. The staff are unbelievable - little things like being greeted by a happy face and conversation goes a long, long way. If anyone was unfortunate enough to be diagnosed with cancer and had to go through Chemotherapy I would have absolutely no hesitation in telling them that if they were under the care of this team then they will be fine. They could never do enough for you, always walking the extra mile. The whole team made what should have been the worst 8 months of my life bearable. It could go to a stage where I was looking forward to attending hospital as the staff were so polite (wasn't so excited to attend on the days when I was having chemo of course!) I will genuinely miss attending the hospital, but I won't miss the chemotherapy! Fantastic service from a fantastic bunch of people. They probably have the attitude of "it's my job to look after you, but I think they need recognition to say how good at their job they are doing. The doctor and staff were always very welcoming when I attended clinic, which are appointments that you are not always excited to attend as they could possibly bring bad news, but they always made you feel like they care. I think if every single patient had to write a review on here then you'd find majority would be delighted with the care / treatment given but I guess modern society are more likely to complain than give positive reviews. Keep up the good work and thank you for saving my life. Daniel King, Hodgkins Lymphoma Survivor

Thank you very much for your kind comments. We are extremely grateful that you have taken the time to provide this feedback. Our staff work hard to try to ensure that a patient’s experience whilst at the hospital is as pleasant and comfortable as possible, and they are always considerably heartened and motivated on learning how much their efforts have been appreciated. We have passed your kind sentiments to staff in our Haematology Department. If we can be of further assistance in any way, please do not hesitate to contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on freephone 0800 432 0251, email wih-tr.pals@nhs.net or in writing to PALS, Arrowe Park Hospital, Arrowe Park Road, Upton, Wirral, CH49 5PE.
