On 16/08/2014 I arrived at the Russells Hall general day surgery unit for my first ever hospital experience, involving the repair of a right inguinal hernia. Having been particularly nervous, and apprehensive about the surgery, it was not an experience I was looking forward to at all. I have nothing but praise for all of the staff I came into contact with during the day, and my surgeon completely put me at ease and made the experience as pleasant as it could be. The procedure and all steps to be taken during and after the surgery were clearly explained, and nurses could not do enough to help (including providing endless food and drink post-surgery), completely reassuring my faith in our health system. I was also extremely grateful to the nurse who offered without being asked to wheel me out of the hospital, in order that my 4 month pregnant partner didn't have to struggle. I felt completely at ease and in safe hands, and would definitely not have the same concerns if I had to return for whatever reason. It is now 4 days since the surgery and I am healing exactly as I was told I would, and the pain is manageable. Thanks again to all involved, for both curing my problem, and for giving me faith and confidence in the NHS for the future. James
