"Mother of an injured infant"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital

Since being a mum I have visited stoke mandeville twice. Once to give birth and more recently, to a & e, child's decision ward, children's ward and children's outpatient ward. My 16 month old scolded herself with my green tea, it has been the most horrific and traumatic experience I have lived through. However, from the moment the paramedics arrived at our home, to today when we got the all clear, I have been certain that my baby was getting the best care possible. I felt safe, cared for, respected and sympathised with all the way. The staff have been excellent in everyway, meeting the physical and emotional needs of us both throughout this process. Every member of staff on all the various teams have been a blessing and I cannot praise them highly enough. As stated in the beginning, in one week we visited 4 wards, this is due to the thoroughness and dedication given to my daughter. The cleanliness was of highest quality too which is also reassuring and welcomed. My only negative is that the lovely children's play room is now to be turned into a W H Smith. We were able to enjoy and turn our daughters traumatic visit into one of play and fun. I find this a shame but have hope in the board that they know what they are doing. Thank you and god bless Stoke Mandeville Hospital

Dear Responder

A room near children’s OPD which was being used for children to play while waiting for clinic appointment is being turned into a retail outlet. A smaller room will be provided within the children’s OPD in about 3 months time. In the meantime a small fenced off area within the main reception area is available.
