"Poor attitudes and rude staff"

About: St George's Hospital

This is a poor hospital and consists of management with very poor attitudes. We had a relative who stayed there recently and I have to agree with other reviews regarding staff care. Staff frequently stand in the office leaning against the wall doing nothing. There seems to be no interaction with patients and there is no greeting at the door and certainly not in a professional way. We were not let out we had to ask to be let out in fact one of the patients actually apologised as she was left wandering around that she could not let us out as we were not seen to the door by staff. When we went to the office my relative and I stood there for 2 or 3 minutes with several staff in the office just staring at us and not asking if we needed any help. The environment also feels very oppressive. In fact my ill relative had to shout for some help before the ward manager came out of the back office.Safeguarding is very poor there is no signing in and out book and the ward manager is very rude and unhelpful. Our relative has had expensive property go missing and no one knows where it has gone. I know it was there as I took it into the hospital and handed it to a member of staff to pass to my relative. This hospital needs investigating as service is very very poor. I have my doubts though as no one is prepared to listen when it comes to issues regarding mental health. It s simply brushed under the carpet.

We are very sorry to learn of what you have described were your experiences during a recent visit to one of our wards. From what is written, we would be keen to undertake an investigation further as this would not be the impression we would wish anyone to experience, nor does your description meet with the quality standard of care we as an organisation strive to achieve. We are sorry to learn of your dissatisfaction and are committed to trying to improve on this. In order to progress a specific investigation further, we would need more details with which to identify which ward and if you recall, when exactly the incidents occured. We fully acknowledge and respect that comments are made on this site confidentially, and it is your absolute right to have this preserved. In the event that we do not hear from you, please be assured we will undertake some general explorations across our inpatients services, and will share this feedback with staff. Any actions arising from this will then be taken forward. Once again, please accept our apologies for what you describe have been your less than satisfactory experiences, please be assured we are a learning organisation and would very much wish for the opportunity to improve on this. If you wish to make contact to take this further, please call the Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01785 783027 for further assistance.
