The Consultant in The Upper GI department is literally just what the doctor ordered! Whilst I was being assessed and undergoing procedures all went very well and although a little slow, all was well. Then in May I was asked to come for a Pre-med examination. Allow four hours. That went well and I naively imagined that since I had the pre-med the operation would soon be given a date. Wrong. Not on June list, not on July list, not on Aug list, not on Sept. List. I arranged a holiday in Oct. back in June as I believed the operation would be over and done with. So.... not on Oct liet and still no idea if it would be Nov. Now I have been informed that the Pre-med is out of date and I will need another. Is this not just a money wasting situation? I am told there are at least 200 patients like me awaiting an operation. If this is the case and we all need second pre-meds. Is this just a leak of time and money for all concerned? I believe we have now become the forgotten people. Whilst trying to make some sense in this waiting time for a much needed but not a cancer operation I have started with the Dept. Of Health who sent me To NHS England, they sent me to the Commissioning Doctors who sent me to P.A.L.S who referred me back to my GP. Talk about run a-round and absolutely no answers, and of course, no dates. Where do I go from here as when I spoke to my GP he said he could write a letter on my behalf to the hospital but it would not get anywhere. This is what the NHS has become for us.
