"Outstanding service"

About: Royal Liverpool University Dental Hospital

I attended the walk-in triage service with appalling, intermittent pain after persevering with a course of antibiotics prescribed by own dentist which had not had any effect. I was treated with concern, thoroughness and friendliness throughout and had total confidence in every aspect of what was clearly defined as a plan to eradicate my immediate pain. I had two assessment consultations and an X-ray over the course of the morning and was given an appointment to return in the afternoon for treatment. All of this was in the context of being due to attend the Dental Hospital in the next fortnight for an out-patient appointment which I had previously been forced to postpone - either of which fact I feared could be used to justify not treating me that day. This is a valuable, exceptional service which shouldn't be abused either by attending with mild problems or - as I witnessed - by bemoaning the waiting time and the need to return later in the day for the relevant procedure. Being offered on-the-day treatment for what should be severe dental pain should elicit only gratitude. With a little more of that and some restraint when considering whether a visit is absolutely necessary, more people might be able to benefit from the outstanding care which I enjoyed.
