I walked in the emergency room. The wait was not long; the waiting room was (relatively) quiet, well organised, and I always had the feeling that if I needed anything immediately someone would have been there quickly. The nurse who examined me for triage was incredibly attentive (she understood all of my complex medical history straight away - it happens very rarely!); she saw something worrying but she managed to keep me calm seemingly effortlessly. The nurses and the doctors who visited me in the A&E were very patient (I was in a lot of pain), thorough (they examined a series of different possibilities), and quick to adapt to changing conditions (my conditions changed a lot during the afternoon). I was always kept up-to-date with what was happening to me, in a professional but not cold way. I was discharged later that day, with thorough suggestions on how to take care of myself. Something else that I admired was how my husband was able to be with me and how he was included in the situation - he was kept in the loop but I was asked if I wanted to be on my own.
