"Stay clear if your having a baby!!"

About: Wansbeck Hospital

The attitude of staff on the delivery suite and Ward 11 is disgusting! I was left 3 days after having an emergency section without a wash because I had been given a new dressing (pico pack) which they didn't know what to do with so just left me! The room is overfilled with new mums and babies and is like a green house (even staff are arguing that they need fans).

Dear Madam, I must apologise I replied to this post on Sunday and for some reason it still hasn't been recorded by the NHS Choices system. Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention - it is important for us to not only learn from your comments but also act quickly to rectify matters. I was extremly disappointed to read your story and naturally want to understand more about why your care on ward 11 was so poor. We want all our Mums to have very positive memories of their time giving birth. We expect our care to be kind and compassionate at all times - it is never acceptable for a poor staff attitude to get in the way of these expecatations and the standards of care set by the Trust. I am very sorry that the team's lack of familiarity with a new dressing prevented you from having a proper wash. I have forwarded your note to senior managers within the midwifery service so that they can immediately look into why this happened. I understand the General Manager met the ward team first thing this morning. I would like to understand more about your situation in particular so that I can provide you with the response you deserve - unfortunately while your post remains anonymous I am prevented from doing this in the way that I would like to. Please do get in touch with me directly on annie.laverty@nhct.nhs.uk. With sincere apologies once again, Annie
