"Accident and Emergency"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

I am 43 years old and it's only the 3rd time I have visited a&e so it's fair to say I have to be in a fair bit of pain to go. I went as I had a major pain in my left foot to be told it's not trauma or an accident then sent packing. I could probably understand if the unit was full but there were only 4 patients waiting to be seen.Maybe if I drunk causing a menace or of ethnic origin I would of been treated a lot better. This is all that is wrong about the uk. Paid taxes all me life and can't get treatment when required.

Thank you for taking time to share your experience of the Emergency Department. We are sorry that you felt you were inappropriately redirected and would like to look into this for you. If you would like someone from the Patient Advice Team to do this, please contact them at PALS@chs.northy.nhs.uk. Whilst the waiting room may not have appeared busy, it is likely there were a number of patients being treated in the department following arrival by ambulance. These patients enter the department via a separate entrance and do not wait in the main waiting area. However it is important that we can learn from your experience and as previously stated, we would be grateful if you could contact the PALS team to discuss this in more detail.
