"My Dad's poor care at QMC"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Neurology The Queen Elizabeth Hospital / Neurology

(as a relative),

In late July my father suffered a subdural brain haemorrhage. At the time this happened, we were on holiday in Norfolk. From the start Queen Elizabeth Hospital at Kings Lynn CT scanned my dad and had ongoing communication with Addenbrooks Hospital. He received wonderful care and treatment for the eleven days he was in there. However, because of being over 80 miles away from home, he was transferred to QMC in Nottingham in early August 2014.

Since being at QMC he has deteriorated beyond belief. A CT scan they assured he would receive on arrival was never given. He was transferred between wards without any notification, so we were having to walk miles to find him.

It has now been discovered that his medication for Parkinson's Disease had not been given to him resulting in him having a seizure yesterday. How many days he had gone without this goodness only knows.

When my sister approached a doctor his only comment was 'these things happen. ' NO they do not just happen. This is due to neglectful staff and a lack of care. Thank goodness another doctor came on duty and sprang into action. We will be making a formal complaint.

Thank you for sharing your comments about your father and the care he received at this hospital. I am sorry that he has since deteriorated and that you are all facing a difficult and challenging time. I am glad that you felt the hospital and the team here were able to provide your father and your family with the care and support you needed and I will be sharing your comments with all those that looked after him. I do hope that his health will begin to improve in the near future. Claire Roberts Associate Director of Patient Experience Tel: 01553 613459 or email: claire.roberts@qehkl.nhs.uk
