"Rapid access neck lump clinic"

About: Royal Preston Hospital

I have been under the care of my consultant for almost 2 years after discovering a lump in the front of my neck. Through NHS choices I was offered the choice of attending 5 different clinics at hospital within travelling distance of where I live. I chose the Rapid Access Neck Lump Clinic at Chorley Hospital as I was able to get an initial consultation within 6 days. I was seen in the morning and then got the results from the lab from the consultant in the afternoon. I cannot speak highly enough of the care I have received from the consiltant and his staff. When you suspect you may have cancer the best possible outcome of any investigation is to find out as quickly as possible so that a treatment plan can be put into action, thus reducing the physical and emotional stress as much as possible. Initially I was told there was no evidence of cancer in my thyroid but I have been under review since that initial consultation and when changes began to be seen the consultant made the decision to remove the gland. I'm now 3 weeks post op and I am really pleased with every aspect of the care I have received pre and post op from the consultant and his team of nursing staff..
