"Incompetent Admin Staff"

About: The Maidstone Hospital

I am an 86 year old man and was admitted into hospital on June 8 for an emergency operation to remove kidney stones. This could not be completed so a stent was inserted and I was told by the surgeon that he would see me in 2/3 weeks time. My discharge notification dated June 12 states a further operation date will be arranged by Urology in 3/4 weeks. As 9 weeks have elapsed I telephoned the hospital and was informed by a secretary that I was top of the list which seems an obvious cover up lie for incompetence. She even informed me that they had told the medical people not to inform patients of further treatment dates. It is my opinion that the admin staff assume an imaginary state of importance used to override decisions made by doctors and this situation needs immediate investigation. A doctor's verdict is based on medical knowledge used to benefit patients and admin staff who are basically clerks should not exceed their authority. In my case I am experiencing internal bleeding but it seems that I have to await any further action until the admin staff authorise it. Should my health suffer in any way then I will hold the Maidstone hospital responsible for failing in their care duties.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback relating to your ongoing urology care. We were sorry to learn of the difficulties you have encountered in trying to obtain a surgery date, following your discharge from hospital in June 2014. As you have provided us with your name and age, we have been able to obtain some information relating to your surgery. Please could you contact the PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) Team on 01622 224960 or e-mail us at mtwpals@nhs.net and provide us with a daytime contact number and we will contact you directly to provide you with an update. We look forward to hearing from you again. With kind regards. The PALS Team. (TK)
