Previous experiences of contact with the Leeds hospitals' staff has almost without fail left me feeling patronised and ill-informed or furious at the incompetent, inconsiderate and sometimes rude behaviour I have encountered. My expectations of the clinic at Seacroft therefore were pretty low. My experience however could not have been more different in this case. I was seen quickly at the appointment time and was treated with courtesy and kindness throughout. Everyone from the consultant, to the radiographers and the breast care nurses took the time to explain and reassure and every stage of the proceures I went through was explained in detail. This did a tremendous amount to allay fears and make an uncomfortable experience more bearable. Too often hospital staff assume a level of knowledge patients do not have and fail to address concerns adequately. There is nothing good about having to enter the hospital system, particularly when there is a possibility of a life-threatening or life-limiting diagnosis at the end of it. The staff of this unit really do show how patients in this position should be treated.
