"All staff fantastic, bad smell however."

About: University Hospital Monklands

(as a relative),

My husband was staying on Ward 17/18 at Monklands.

All of the staff were fantastic. However, the smell out of the sink next to my husband’s bed was awful. I had to put boiling water down it to try and clean it. It didn’t look dirty, it was spotless, but the smell was really bad. I think it may be a problem with the pipes.

There was also a rat outside of one of the wards.

Dear North227

Thank you for taking the time to post your experience when visiting your husband in wards 17/18. I am very sorry the sink next your husband's bed was foul smelling, I requested the estates staff inspect the sinks in these wards. Thankfully there was no issue found and the smell had disappeared, however I have requested the nursing and domestic sevices staff remain vigilant and report any concerns immediately.

Your posting also mentioned seeing a rat outside the ward, I would be very grateful if you could contact me on Ext. 3065 to give me greater details. We did have an issue with vermin several weeks ago, this was addressed by Rentokil.

Thank you for your kind comment regarding the staff and I will pass this to both Wards 17 & 18.

I hope your husband is making a good recovery.

Kindest regards

Ruth
