"suprisingly good"

My mother was admitted to the Pilgrim by ambulance, we have only lived in Lincolnshire for a few years and had heard terrible stories about this hospital. My mother has received good treatment in a kind and sympathetic manner for the weeks that she has been in. I have never found any area dirty, she has never been neglected, she has been helped with feeding when it was neccesary in a timely fashion and as a family we have been listened to. My only concern has been that staff do not communicate well. We have specific issues that any member of staff thinking of discharging mum needs to know about and it has been an uphill battle to make sure that they are aware. We have coped with this but other people who are less proactive might find this an issue. If you or a loved one are about to go into this hospital please don't be scared by the horror stories that everyone seems to delight in telling, the care here now is very good, the food is good, the staff kind (but maybe at times very overworked) the place clean, and there are some very good doctors too. Even more importantly if you do have concerns the relevant people are willing to listen and to act on those concerns. There is a massive issue with elderly people of there not being enough available beds in rehab and in intermediate care so you get to the point where a patient is too unwell to go to another hospital for rehab and there are no beds elsewhere so they get sent home, this isn't really the hospitals fault but the system and funding. We are struggling with this issue at present but so far the staff who are looking after mum are doing their very best to make sure she is safe and able to manage at home.
